Skip counting

I am learning to skip count in 5s.  Next I will be try skip counting on from a number.

Reading eggs

I am learning to recognise digraphs and blends so I can read the sounds that two letters make.  Reading Eggs helps me to reinforce my learning.

Acrostic poem

I am learning how to write an acrostic poem.  I know that I start each sentence with a letter of the subject.  I wrote about myself. 

Bird pillow

For our Art Exhibition this year we learnt how to sketch a bird.  The final drawing was transferred onto calico and dye was added.  The bird was glued onto a pillow that Mrs Scott and Mrs Worsfold had sewn.  Don't they look great!

Yanni said, " I can put in lots of 'wow' words to make my story very good."

I am learning to sound out 3 letter words.

I am learning to say the first, middle and last sound in a word and then blend the sounds together to write the word.  This can help me in my reading and my writing.

" I can sound out letters because if I get mixed up I sound the words out. I can miss out the word so I can read back and work out the word." said Yanni

I am learning to write number sentences to 10

I am learning to write number sentences to 10 and use this knowledge, when I play games, to solve problems in my head.

"  I can put the biggest number in my head and count on." said Yanni

We are learning to write for an audience and publish quality work to share.

I am learning to place a sentence in order.

I am learning to construct a sentence, reading it as I go to make sure my reading makes sense.

"I can spell the words and practice the sounds.  I can read it in my head." said Yanni

I am learning to count on from a number

 Yanni, you are able to read on from any number up to 20. Next we will be working on ordering numbers to 20 and above.

"I can count on from 5 or 10. I can count to 100 by myself." said Yanni

Elm park 50th Birthday Party

We launched our Celebration Inquiry with a huge party for Elm Park School. This year our school will turn 50! We had a great day with our school friends and our whanau.

Yanni said," I liked the party and I liked the cookies. It was a happy day."

I am learning to make a rhyming string

I am learning to find words that end with the same rhyming sounds.

I am learning to make a pattern of my own.

Yanni said, " I can point to the words. I am on the red rocket."

I am learning to form my numerals correctly

I am learning to write my numbers around the right way.  I am able to write up to 17 correctly but I am learning to form 5 and 6 correctly.

Yanni said," I am doing numbers. It is a bit tricky going to 100."

I am learning about water safety

I am learning to enter and exit the pool safely.

I am learning to blow bubbles and get my head wet.

I am learning to manage myself and get changed independently.

The whole class got a lot quicker at getting ready!

Yanni said, "  I like getting the ring. I like the water."

I am learning to write a story

I am learning to write more than than 2 sentences.

I am learning to start with a capital letter.

I am learning to read my story to see if it makes sense.

Yanni said, " I like my picture and I am good at finger spaces."
