Bubble Fun

Bubble Fun

WALT / Practising to Count On and Count Back

Today we had a visit from the Science in a Van Roadshow.
We learnt about mixtures, separation and reactions.  We also had some bubble fun.
We decided to see how many bubbles we could blow in ONE breath and then add them together and take them away - this way we could practise our addition and subtraction and basic facts.

Some of us had to blow a few times to make sure we got enough bubbles to count!

"It was a little tricky for us to work out the answer.  We used the calculator and 100s boards to check our answer.  When know to add on and back from the biggest number.  We had a lot of fun!"

WALT Make Connections

"I like reading.  I like working on the independent cards.  The cards are easy to do.  Sometimes it is hard to make a connection with the story." Yanni

WALT Write Adjectives

We have been learning to add  describing words to our stories
to make them more interesting.

Here is a quick describing activity that we did in class.
We got to choose what animal we wanted to write about.
We used TAGUL to make them into word clouds.

It was tricky to come up with describing words.  My friends in my group helped me with some of the words. I can try and use these words in my stories.

Showcase Term 4 - Wearable Art

Wearable Art with a Pacific flavour!

Room 9 have spent the last 2 terms creating 2 pieces of Wearable Art.
The first piece was a t-shirt with a painted picture that reminded us of the Pacific.
The girls chose to sketch and paint a Pasifika flower.
The boys chose to draw a sea turtle.

Inside each of these drawings were patterns that we had explored and seen displayed in
Pasifika artworks.  We practised by sketching these into our art books.

The second artwork created by the girls were hula skirts.  We reused plastic bags and tied them together as we worked in pairs.  At first it was a little tricky but the more we did, the better we got at tying them together.  Like they say - practise makes perfect!

The second artwork displayed by the boys was a Lavalava or Pareu (sarong)
to compliment their t-shirts.

We had a lot of help from Mrs Kong to complete the sarongs, painting of the t-shirts and in the construction of our hula skirts in time for the art show so a BIG THANK YOU to her for all her help!  We couldn't have done it without you.

We hope you enjoy our wonderful creations ... Tamure tamure, e te muremure ra...

WALT Read for Specific Information - Follow Instructions

Yanni's Reflection:

"I like reading.  I can read to my mum and my dad and my brother.  I like to read my unicorn books.  Reading can help me get better at writing words and I can learn to read faster and faster."

WALT Write a Cinquain Poem

Yanni

Reflection:
"I like writing. I like writing about my own things like when we get free-choice.
I need to remember to put in capital letters and fullstops and not use "the"
all the time. Mrs Koroa wants me to write more sentences so my stories are longer
and they have more details."
